This is my point...

Clinton is better positioned to beat Obama in swing states according to everyone who has any logic and almost every single poll out there - http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN0234370120080402

To me, the logic for supporting Clinton over Obama is simple.

1) Clinton can beat McCain in "must win" swing states like Florida, Penn and Ohio

2) Obama has won a ton of red states (which will go to McCain) and has yet to get a decisive victory in ANY swing state, major blue state or purple state.

3) Therefore, due to issues of race, lack of faith in his experience or the need to have someone a little more long in the tooth on the national stage - whatever the individual reason -- if Obama gets the nomination the Democrats will LOSE to McCain. Its SO obvious.

1 plus 2 equals 3 -- and in this case 3 is four more years of a Republican.

I truly hope Clinton trounces Barack in Penn, wins Indiana and North Carolina and then makes a stronger argument to count Florida and Michigan. Honesely, the threat isn't the Clinton's stealing the election - the threat is blind idealism handing the election to the Republicans. Common-frakkin' sense - middle America is NOT ready for Barack Obama.

Its called Dollhouse and promises to be something pretty unique. I'm excited beyond belief...

Dollhouse

Here's a ton of leaked spoilers/rumors about Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse, starring Eliza Dushku: The Dollhouse, home of the amnesiac "dolls" who can be anyone or anything, is in Los Angeles. There are two types of "dolls," Actives and Inactives. Dushku's character, Echo, is an Inactive.

In one scene, Adelle, the "ice queen" who runs the Dollhouse, meets with a Senator who's considering "buying" an Active doll to use as an "escort." She convinces the Senator the Active will be better than any human escort, because the emotions will be real to the "doll" and she'll be programmed to want it as much as he does.

The geek who programs the dolls, Topher, calls Echo's "handler" Boyd, because he's noticed that a group of the mind-wiped dolls has sat together at lunch at the same table for the third time within a week. Dushku's character, Echo, seems to be initiating this clique, which means she may be evolving beyond her mind wipes. There is definitely something unusual about Echo, compared to the other "dolls." If Adelle the boss finds out, she'll have Echo killed.

Topher the geek and Boyd the handler have differing opinions about their work. Topher believes it's purely programming and sort of morally wrong (even though he enjoys doing it.) But Boyd thinks it's healthy for the "dolls" to get to experience every possible human emotion through their programmed personalities. [Blank_Dolls community]

Trying to save his arse...

SO NOW he says he would have resigned - if he had heard Wright say the things he said in his crazy-ass, racist, un-American sermons that ran over and over and over again on the news....and he chose to say this to the lovely ladies of the View? Not in a Speech to his googly-eyed supporters, not on Oprah, not on another more influential news program...on the View. Nice choice.

SO WHY the hell was he saying, over the last two weeks  that - of course he had heard similar incendiary sermons from Wright (excusing him by saying its just his style, or its out of context from the entirety of the sermon) -- of course he heard racist rhetoric during the 20-plus years he has attended that church. But, it didn't bother him enough to leave at ANY point over the last 20-years, but suddenly it does now...

But, now - because it will completely derail him in a general election - he's covering his ass like any typical politician. Props to Obama for playing the game - but it just proves my point that he's just like any other politician -- which goes back to the fundamental reason I don't like him --- all character-related things being equal (which in my mind they are) he's just too green to do the job.

And now we have Wright and the Trinity Church mess -- it is why (if he gets the nomination) the Dems will lose....well, that - coupled with the 28 percent of Hillary lovers that'll either stay home or vote for McCain.

All I have to say to that is...WOW...there is NO way that's not going to be on every TV across the country come election time. Obama's connection to his church is seriously going to screw the Dems.

He's trying to recover - but it just shows what an inexperienced candidate he is...he's too late to spin it, he's been too "honest" in not distancing himself, and he appears far too dismissive of it...this is the shit that middle America will not forgive. Period.

His great speech on race is going to be quickly forgotten...and we're going to be left with all the fodder Obama has left scattered on the primary battlefield.

Unless Howard Dean seats the damn Florida and Michigan delegations - counts the popular vote from those states and makes the only decision to give us a fighting chance.

Chris Matthews is a douchebag...

Okay, every night I come home and turn on the news flipping between MSNBC, CNN and Fox...trying to get a sense of the punditry and track the news trends.

See - this is the commentary people will take as fact. This is the stuff that the middle of America will hear and believe. That's what happens. That's how decisions are made...

I'm sure I'm not the first to write about this, but Chris Matthews and MSNBC is loaded with total douche-bags....I have NEVER (not even on Fox) seen such biased programming and skewed commentary. I know that Matthews runs conservative - but, unlike Fox which is bashing both candidates -- Matthews is making Clinton bashing his favorite pastime.

Thank god for CNN/Lou Dobbs and even (on some level) -- Fox News. Fox, unapologetically right of center at least is presenting the Democratic debacle in a way where they're making fun of everyone - bashing everyone.

The dumb-ass, dipshit, douche-bag that is Chris Matthews and his permanently upside down smile is making me want to vomit - I watch it just to see if he can continue to spin every story as a negative against Hillary Clinton.

There was a time when newscasters and networks reported and discussed the news as impartial observers - but, seriously - Chris Matthews doesn't even TRY to be unbiased. Its no surprise he's anti-Clinton-and has always been, but seriously, he delivers SUCH a biased perspective of ANYthing that's happening in the news. Its really, seriously off-putting. But its also like watching Rush Limbaugh - I can't take my eyes off of it - because it amazes me just how much spin and couched commentary he applies when "moderating" a discussion. From cutting people off, to blaming party nastiness solely on Clinton.

He's just a dick. 

Last night, he said that the media (including his show) makes it seem like she has more of a chance at securing the nomination than she does...Um...does he watch his own show? He never wastes a second saying how she has no chance. Selectively ignoring the nuances that make this election a cluster-fuck.

He's truly worse than anyone on Fox.

On a plus side, he seemed a little more amenable and forgiving when talking about the "joint-ticket" Hillary's team has been suggesting. It was bizarre.

As an aside - I do think that's the only thing that's going to save the party. An Obama-Clinton or Clinton-Obama ticket. Obama closed the door on the latter idea like a petulant child consistent with ever-growing ego. If he closes the door on the reverse, he'll be committing political suicide. I mean at least keep the possibility open.

With 28 percent of Hillary supporters deciding to throw their support behind McCain if Obama gets the nomination - its the only hope he has in winning....that is, IF he ends up bullshitting his way into a nomination.

After McCain's speech on foreign policy and expected speeches to reach out to Hill's 28 percent Obama-haters...I have to ask myself if I'm one of those 28 percent. I actually think I might be....

For all his baggage, McCain can't be worse than GWB. 

Enough is Enough

Okay, I've had about enough...I've started this blog again because I need to vent.

I'm a Democrat, but I don't believe that Obama can win the general election NOR do I believe he's the right person for the job. I am a Clinton supporter for the simple fact that she's tried and true and is the best person to right the economy and get our soldiers safely out of Iraq while protecting the overseas economic interests of our country.

I hear people talk about Obama and its like they took some kind of crazy pill. He's not the second coming, he's just a really smart, really eloquent politician - with strong ties to the left, left, liberal wing of the democratic party. He's running on rhetoric about being a uniter - but he's got nothing behind that - NO history of proving that.

In fact, he's got a history of being sorta anti-establishment....

"GOOD!" (Most of the Obama supporters I know would say...that's what I want) -- But against a majority that is centrist - that philosophy won't fly in a general election. So whenever I want to really get fired up - I go and read Juan's blog - at http://boozhy.typepad.com/

Juan filters his posts through a lens of half truths without context and an astonishing lack of strategic foresight or big-picture thinking. IF we Democrats really want to WIN the whitehouse - then we need to look beyond the "new-ness" of Obama and deal with the reality of a centrist nation. Juan suggests Obama is our best chance to win the Whitehouse in 10 years...well, no - he's just the first candidate to win Oprah's endorsement.

Juan wrote a post about Evan Bayh's comments asking us to consider who is winning in the states where the electoral college will have the biggest impact. Juan suggests that those states will vote Democratic anyway - but Bayh's point isn't about the loyal blue states (that Hillary won) his point wasn't about MA, CA and NY - its about Ohio, Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania - the ever waffling purple states.

Those are the states that are going to cost the election for the Dems if and when Obama gets the nod.

Now for the general venting....

I really don't get how people can drone on about Obama winning the popular vote, delegates and more states...(Um, minus Florida and Michigan - which will likely be red this year thanks to Obama's team's blocks of a re-vote)...

He won't necessarily have the popular vote when all is said an done and if Florida (where Obama WAS on the ballot and where neither candidate campaigned)was considered a valid primary - he likely wouldn't have a significant lead in the delegate count. Its just shitty that the one state that has had SUCH a critical impact on the making or breaking of presidents is one of two that is being disenfranchized by the Democratic party.

AND if there was a revote in Michigan, chances are Obama'd lose there too...(since they usually vote like Ohio) --AND THEY KNOW IT... that's why his camp has done everything in their power to block a re-vote.

Sure, he will have won more states - but he's winning the states where the Dems are in the minority and are more polarized. Um...hello...Obama had a sweeping caucus victory in Idaho...WHOO HOO!

Even worse, now, the republicans have enough fodder to truly shred him in the general election. Between Rev. Wright, the fact he doesn't wear a flag lapel in protest (and his lame ass reasoning), to the youtube video (go to you tube - type in "Is Obama Wright") of him being the only candidate out of all the original candidates to not respect the national anthem by putting his hand over his heart. Whether intentional or not. The republicans are salivating over Obama. It'll be a landslide for McCain.

People supporting him are so blinded by having a shiny, new candidate that they're neglecting to realize he's not electable - I wish that weren't the case, but it is...

This will be worse than all those idealistic weenies who voted for Nader because they didn't want Gore - that ultimately cost the Dems the election.

Hillary's not perfect, but at least she gives our party a fighting chance...

If Obama could pull off a decisive victory in a purple state - maybe I'd even chime in to have Hillary drop out. But because he can't do that ANYWHERE in the U.S. -- then I hope Hillary pulls out every trick she ever learned in Washington to make the point SO clear that the Super delegates have no choice but to give it to her.

And for everyone who says she has to win 60 percent of the remaining contests...GOOD. 60 percent is not insurmountable - if she doesn't do it - then she doesn't deserve the presidency. But I sure as shit don't want her to stop fighting for what's right.

The sad part is - after this primary battle - I'm not sure either of them could win. That said, I do believe the best chance rests with a second President Clinton.   

Prayer for a Friend...

A good friend of mine, someone who saved my life once, was seriously injured in a bicycling accident a few days ago in Sydney...he's in a medically induced coma and is being treated.

Please say a prayer for him and his health, happiness and well-being.

He's a genious that knows the true value of a smile and laughter...

Update...

Well, its been a hell of a month! Not sure how to outline this all for you - but to say the least its left me a bit exhausted, but its all really good stuff.

First off - Justice Society!!! - You know what I'm talking about if you're reading it....the new Wildcat, Dream Girl of classic Legion of Supes in chains....I mean that's some seriously cool shit! The whole kick off to this series has been amazing.

To the big news...I just had a compelling job offer that I ultimately declined because my current company reminded me of why I like it here...I had to do some serious thinking, but ultimately I've decided to sit tight.

Other big news...Rocco and I just signed the papers on an apartment up in Riverdale. Its right where the Hudson and East Rivers meet. Right on the banks of the river. A cute one bedroom.  I'm extremely excited.

I never realized how much I really did want to get out of the city. I like the idea of being a commuter...

Okay, the JSA is just flat out awesome....NOT only did they introduce all this family lineage stuff -- which I've always loved...but, they've introduced a new Wildcat....

The son of the original, only this kid can actually morph into a man-cat like thing...how cool is that? 

Anyway, I've also been reading the Trials of Shazam (pretty good) and Dark Ages, the latest in the Astro City series drawn by Brent Anderson...btw, does anybody remember the series from the 80's Anderson drew called Strikeforce Morituri....how awesome was that....!!?

Lastly, I've been reading Supergirl and trying to figure out the story behind Power Boy. The last issue just sort of made him into a psycho...which isn't good...'cause as far as comic characters go - he was sorta hot. And I hope they explain his powers - who he is, etc.

Overall, I gotta say - my favorite books to read are the DC books - over the last few years they've really returned to glory...and Marvel kind of seems like its in a rut.

Some of my favorite things right now...

Okay, if I had more time - I'd totally dedicate 10 posts to each of these subjects, but I just wanted to write a few words about some of the things I'm enjoying right now...

Heroes...um, because its awesome. Go to http://www.primatechpaper.com/ for some cool stuff about the show...specifically bits about upcoming new characters...also, I'm trying to sort out the connections between all the people with powers. There are connections...actually one suggestion is that Mr. Bennet's organization actually injected people to give them their powers. And then there's Linderman...a connection that seems to bind all of them...if anyone has any leads, thoughts, etc. let me know...oh..and I love me some Peter/Nathan Petrelli and Isaac!

Comics:

Teen Titans - love that Jericho's back, love all the new characters they've introduced, but I'm screaming for back history! Zatara Jr.,  since when did Raven get the name "Rachel Roth", who's Kid Crusader (who's he connected to...), Sun Girl (could she be Inferno, left in the past when a few Legionaires were sent back to the past?), Miss Martian? and others...so many characters and not enough information/back story.

Justice Society of America.... now that's a comic book! Maybe its just the possibility of ties to the Legion of Super Heroes from the 80's (that was Dawnstar teased in the back of issue #1), or the wackyness of Starboy/Starman and the not so subtle connection to Kingdom Come, and the bringing in of the kids of older heroes -- but, this book is frakkin' awesome! Although, I want them to clear up some things here...um, when did Jesse Quick (Jesse Chambers) get her Mom's powers...I get she lost her connection to the speed force and lost her speed powers and LOVE that she's involved with Hourman and is going by Liberty Belle (her Mom)...but, what the heck? When did that stuff happen! And finally, I get that Damage got "damaged" when he was almost killed while fighting with the Freedom Fighters, but they keep drawing him bigger so you confuse him with Nuklon/Atom Smasher. I've always liked Damage though so I hope he stays in character.

  Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters - Love this book, the art, the spirit of it and the characters. I'm sad that its ending after 8 issues. I was pissed and wondering what happened to the real Ray cause he was in space during Infinite Crisis...then poof...no word of him and this other Ray shows up and he's a dick. They just fixed everything in issue 7 though...whew. Can't help but comment on how sexy all the male characters are...Black Condor, The Ray, etc...Love that they brought back Ms. America...and the totally obscure Red Bee and Invisible Hood.

Anyway, that's my note - not sure why people keep coming back to visit...but, I'm still around. Maybe I'll get to a post on Bug soon.  She's doing her thing...

Boxing Trumps All!!

Okay, just so everyone knows...over the last few months I've lost about 12lbs. I'm down to the weight I was when I was a crack, addicted streetwalker in Belgium...190lbs!!!

Have to say its all because of boxing....it started out as a trial thing...that I ended up really liking. My coach/trainer is great... This is a promotional post for him...he's really done a great job of getting me in shape, building my coordination and helping me lose inches and lbs...

Heroes

All frakkin' right!

Its about go-ram time they did this...

For the last three weeks I've been enthralled with my new favorite TV show and it just about does to my insides what Buffy once did. Granted, it doesn't feature the wittiness of Joss Whedon, Heroes on NBC does deliver to me that one thing I love about comics in an hour long movie.

Things that make it great:

- It moves - they're not taking for frakkin' ever to reveal everyones powers or draw out the show by keeping the whole cast apart. By the second episode, connections were being made and the group was being brought together....

- Jeph Loeb's an exec producer - THAT means that someone that is from comics is leading this bad boy...its doing the story reveals in a compelling way and its doing it right.

- Use of powers - some are obvious, some are mysterious, others are comics cliches...L O V E that!

- Use of comics - by integrating a comic book artist they're not trying to be anything more or less than what they are - a live action, one hour long comic book!

- Cute boys - there are at least three that I'd easily do and one that gives my tummy a tickle cause he's so cute...

- Tough chicks - the guys have girly powers and all the tough stuff is left to the ladies! I LOVE THAT!!!

Okay, this list could go on and on and on....I really do appreciate the cliff hangers, the thoughtfulness and the character development. This show keeps me waiting.

When last week's episode ended with a future version of Hiro, coming back to warn their (one-day you'll have a big scar and won't necessarily be as cute) future leader - I jumped off the couch and screamed "Now THAT'S how its done!!!

Those of you that know comics know what I mean.

Truly sorry I've sort of fallen off the planet, but I haven't been moved to write in awhile. I'll try to check in at least once a week...

Work...

So, I hope everyone doesn't hate me, I know I haven't been posting...but work has been REALLY busy. Just haven't been able to find the time or energy...

Did want to capture...for posterity sake,  a feeling...because a lot of people I respect are reminding me that some things don't happen all the time and we've got to remember life's little victories.

Basically, in my job, I try to get stories for clients in the news. Recently I secured a very positive piece for a client in the New York Times...

Everyone is SO happy and the accolades have been pouring in...for someone that really gets a boost from hearing that - I have to say, it has been nice.

I'm just so grateful that I'm given the opportunities and circumstances that put me in a position to do a good job.  That's all I want to really do...

Over the course of this year I've been directly responsible for major coverage in the Wall Street Journal and now the New York Times....have been indirectly responsible for a major piece in the Washington Post, and have done good work getting placements in some women's magazines...

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging, but I feel good about my job and what I do.

Moreover, after recently hearing that an old boss, someone I very much respected, suggested that my work while I worked for him was sub-par...and more offensively that I took credit for others work...this just serves to validate what that I am good at what I do and that I do the best I can. In spite of the ridiculous suggestion that I EVER took credit for what someone else has done...

Just goes to show you that other people will try to make you feel bad about yourself, in personal and in professional situations - but the proof is always in the pudding.

And fortunately, due to opportunity and circumstance - along with a dash of skill - I've had my share of pudding lately...

Comics Today...

YiSo, I'm hoping to get to the comic book store after work today and in time for Rocco and my trip to Ocean City, New Jersey. A place that we visited a few months ago and both decided that we really liked it.

I liked it because it reminded me of a California beach town, sorta like Newport Beach...but less dense.

Anyway, here are the books I'm picking up tonight. I am hoping Supergirl and the Legion of Supes gets significantly better because as it stands, it sucks eggs...its written poorly, the characters are bland and the thing that made the book great - how the characters used thier powers is even blander...its like a sanitized boring (trying to be trendy) version of a classic.

Please - go back to what it was a few years ago...

Bugaboo Turns 2 years old

So, Saturday marked a milestone. My formerly poo eating puppy turned a whopping 2 years old today. That's totally 14 in human years, which means she's going to start wanting to date boys, stay out all night and join the cheerleading squad.

She's a good girl and I can't imagine my life without her...

Land's End...

So this weekend I took a trip out to Provincetown to visit my friend Oliver...it was just a short trip, but for the first time, I got a taste for what everyone so wistfully talks about.

It didn't really hit me until the day I left - Oliver got me this book by Michael Cunningham, Land's End...a simple and romantic perspective/story/history of the town, the cape and his personal fascination with it...I was interested in learning that Michael was a California boy, like me...therefore his words had immediate credibility on a level that others (East coasters that don't understand the infinite diverse beauty California has to offer...) don't have...

Michael's perspective is one that I appreciated...as I sat on the plane on my way back to New York...of the 3 or 4 times I've been to Provincetown, I have to say - this was the only time it held charm beyond a life size replica of Mainstreet at Disneyland.

The houses were more, the quiet was more and the beach was more than I remembered or expected. Maybe its just that I was in need of a vacation, or came off a particularly rough week - but, the days spent were well worth the 3 hour train ride/1.5 hour ferry ride and the wait time in between...

Guess that's why the boys love it...

Comics Today and Shows I love

Okay, so the following is a list of shows I'm loving right now,  in no particular order.

Who wants to be a superhero, Janice Dickinsom Modeling Agency, Eureka, Battlestar Gallactica, MTV's RW/RR Challenge - Freshmeat, Rockstar Supernova, Blade: The Series, Project Runway and Big Brother 7: All-Stars...

I have to say, that I find watching TV these days challenging. I have many things that I have on my docket of interesting shows and unfortunately, I don't have time for them all...

The following are comics I'm going to try to pick up today or tonight...I know I'm behind...glad the week's super light...

33 - early to mid thirties...

Remember that show in the 80's called 30 something....well, I guess I'd probably relate to that show today...

Turning 33 today...officially inching up towards mid-thirties, leaving the safe zone of early 30's...

Kinda sucks having a birthday on a Monday...no one wants to do anything...

Although, I did have a good weekend...got to go to Fire Island...spent some time with good friends and even danced a little jig at the Pines Party...now, mind you - that's not my thing anymore...I'm retired from that whole scene...but, I will say - it's nice to visit now and again...

A little ego stroking, mixed with moments of insane insecurity, with a sprinkle of envy, and a heaping portion of forgetting work and just enjoying the deafening music next to a 12 foot speaker is kinda what I needed.

Sure my ears are still ringing today a bit....but, it was nice to give my feet a chance to remember what it was like to find the beat and dance a bit....

Plus...it was a tax write off...

So, I'm watching my new favorite reality TV series, Who wants to be a superhero... and well, right off the bat Stan dumps one of my favorite characters...

The Gay guy...Levity...

And why? Well, because he makes custom action figures and wanted to be able to turn his character into an action figure...nothing's wrong with that...

Who did he keep with questionable morals...the stupid dumbass that wants to kill people in Lebanon!!!

STAN!? C'mon....

Even though this happened....I'm loving this show...it made me cry twice because it tests people's heart...

The first challenge was great! They had to do a quick change in public and get through this arch...most people ran right past this little girl crying...not all of them did...

Fat Momma, Lemuria and Major Victory were my favorites...

Major Victory's a hunky cheeseball...

Love it, love it, love it - even if Stan the man's a homophobe...

WW3

Okay, so I can't help but think we're falling headlong into WW3. I'm certain every political blogger and thier mother has written about this - but as someone who works with the media daily - I'm surprised we haven't seen more stories concerned about the implications of recent world events.

There should be non-stop "Crisis in the Middle East" coverage...I mean, sure - we'd all get sick of it in two days, but the reality is that we're closer to global conflict than we've been in quite some time...

Iran and N. Korea are allies...Syria and Iran are backing Lebanon, Israel going balls out on Lebanon...(maybe to draw attention away from atrocities in West Bank and Gaza...maybe not...who's to say...

But, I do gotta say - this shit has me a little freaked out.

God bless our servicemembers defending themselves in war zones...as overextended as our military is...I shutter to think of what could happen if one of Bush's so-called Axis of Evil country's decide to ratchet shit up...

Feels to me like we're on our way into thicker shit...
